A Seven Month Delay

I am embarrassed to write that it has been seven months since my last blog post. I have no excuses for the delay. I was busy with work, family, and trying to navigate life through the pandemic, but I could have made time to work on this blog. Also, as more time elapsed the more difficult it was to think about starting the process again. It took a commitment to my mastermind group to jump start my motivation to write again. Why did I stop? I created the blog as part of my vision for MeghanandMe, a website, blog, and Instagram page dedicated to highlighting the achievements and passions of biracial women. I have kept up posting on social media, but the blog and website have suffered in the past few months. I think a major reason for this is fear. Fear of what? One is fear of putting myself out there, being vulnerable, and no one caring or reading my work. I had an epiphany when I realized that who cares if no one reads this, it makes me happy and I think it is something that can help other biracial girls and women. I typically thrive on instant gratification and receiving compliments on doing a good job, so it would hurt if a post only received 10 likes or only eight people follow my blog. But, I realized that I am just going to be me and put out content that I am passionate about, even if I help one individual and only receive a few likes this is something I believe in, and that is the only fuel I need to keep going.

New Book Recommendation

One book I really enjoyed reading was Priyanka Chopra’s book Unfinished. I am half-Indian, but my father passed away when I was 10 years old, so I have very little knowledge of the Indian culture and traditions. It is one of the first memoirs I have read by an Indian woman and though I will not be a famous actress, I could understand and relate to her experiences and stories. She shared how she was bullied during high school when she lived in the United States because of her race. I shared a similar experience while I was in middle school. I also highly recommend the Audible version as it feels like you are in a personal conversation with the author.

Mary & Blake Media

One thing that has gotten me through the pandemic is listening to podcasts on subjects I love. My favorites include Rebecca Minkoff’s Superwomen, Royally Obsessed, and podcasts by Mary & Blake Media. I found Mary and Blake when I was looking for a podcast about Bridgerton. Mary and Blake are a married couple from Rhode Island and all of their podcasts are funded by viewers and the couple themselves. I love how they took their love for podcasting and talk about shows and books that they are passionate about. I feel like I am listening to friends talk about topics I love like Bridgerton, Harry Potter, and The Crown. I also feel like that they are examples of what you can accomplish if you are passionate about what you are doing, and show that not everything has to be perfect to be enjoyed.

Final Thoughts-Taking 5 minutes for Yourself

I cannot underestimate the importance of how taking a few minutes for myself daily has helped me mentally, physically, and emotionally. From going outside to get some sun, writing in a gratitude journal, or doing something for myself like painting my nails. All of these actions have helped me stay on track health wise, work wise, and being a support system for family and friends.

Stay safe and healthy! Thank you for reading!

Xoxo!
