Did You Get the Memo?

I can’t believe I am almost 40 years old and my mom can still make me cry. I call my mom every day to check-in on her, and see how she is doing. I have to say at least once a week my mom asks me about my weight. I know I am not as skinny as I was a few years ago, but I work out every day so I am hoping some of my extra weight is muscle. The other day after being told I need to lose 20 pounds, I cried after getting off the phone with her. I know she does it because she says no one else will tell me the truth like she will, but it still hurts. After I cried, I had to remind myself that she thinks I need to lose 20 pounds, but I am happy with the way I am and how I look. I also know that my mom will not change so I have to let her express her view, but I have to remind myself that I am happy with myself and that’s all I can control.

Inspiration-Minda Harts

While scrolling though Instagram, I found a post on Rebecca Minkoff’s Instagram and discovered Minda Harts. Like many people, I have been struggling on what I can do to help educate myself and act to bring about equality in our society. I highly recommend Minda Harts’ book The Memo: What Women of Color Need to Know to Secure a Seat at the Table. I believe that everyone should read this book from women of color to CEO’s of large companies. Minda’s writing is sincere, relatable, and she provides tools on how everyone can play a role in helping women of color find a seat at the business table. I learned that I want to be a “success partner” and I am hoping to start a book club at my university that focuses on the stories of female entrepreneurs, particularly women of color.

Elaine Welteroth-More than Enough

Did you participate in the campaign #SharetheMicNow

On June 10th, Black women spoke from the Instagram accounts of white women. The intention of this campaign was to magnify Black women and the important work they are doing to catalyze the change that will only come when we truly hear each other’s voices. I was so excited to hear Elaine Welteroth’s Instagram live on Michelle Monaghan’s account. If you have not read Elaine’s book More than Enough: Claiming Space for Who You Are (No Matter What They Say) it is a must read. At this time, I am truly trying to educate myself so I can become a positive agent of change or at least better understand what needs to be done to promote unity and equity.

Rachel Hollis Update:

I was in such disbelief and shock when I saw that Rachel and Dave Hollis were getting a divorce on Instagram. As you all know, I am huge fan of all things related to the Hollis Company including the Rise Podcast, the Rise Together podcast, and both Rachel and Dave’s books. One reason that it was hard for me to process this is one of their main platforms is to provide advice on marriage and what you can to have a strong relationship with your partner, and all of a sudden they are getting a divorce? I read how many people are going to stop following them because they think they are frauds and took advantage of their followers, but I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt. I am anxious to see how they will restart their company and events as a divorced couple. I am still sending them love as this blog would not exist without the teachings I have learned from the Hollis Company.

Final Thoughts

I launching my website next week! I am creating a Meghan and Me website, where people can share their stories and continue to follow me on social media and this blog. Launching a website was one of my dreams on my 2020 vision board and it is about to become a reality.

Stay Safe and Healthy!

XOXO,

Nadine
